A lexicon is an index of terms. On this site, each term points to the page that defines it. When a term appears in prose on another page, the first occurrence is linked back to its definition automatically.

Authors can also declare which terms a page contributes to the lexicon via frontmatter: a dedicated term page contributes its title and any aliases in terms:; a non-term page can contribute a single canonical term with include_term:.
